PEACE HOUSE HISTORY
The parish purchased an adjacent building that had served for decades as the Rectory and offices of St. Francis Xavier, the Roman Catholic church in Gettysburg. The purchase was made in full without a mortgage, thanks to a long- standing commitment on the part of Prince of Peace’s leadership to set aside funds for the project. Named “Peace House", the house's mission began by providing temporary living quarters to two refugee families sponsored as part of a joint effort of Prince of Peace, and two other Gettysburg churches, the Gettysburg United Methodist Church and Christ Lutheran Church. The former rectory building is the subject of a long-term vision on the part of Prince of Peace parishioners to serve the Gettysburg community with meeting and event venues, and for gatherings of interfaith groups as well as for Prince of Peace’s own activities.

The Gettysburg Community Soup Kitchen, (GCSK) which formerly used facilities in the Prince of Peace church parlor basement relocated to larger, renovated facilities on the bottom floor of the Peace House in 2012. GCSK's mission is to "provide consistently nourishing meals, at no cost, to the hungry in our community. Prince of Peace continues offering the Peace House space to GCSK "rent-free" while inviting parishioners and community members alike to financially support GCSK as well as volunteer on a regular basis.
